Mayor Jaime Fresnedi got furious on two fishermen caught illegally harvesting on a Muntinlupa government-owned fish sanctuary in Laguna Lake at Sucat, Muntinlupa, Tuesday midnight.
Fresnedi reprimanded the suspects, who were presented before him following their arrest, and explained that reaping on the sanctuary harms the school of fish which serves as source of fingerlings for the city’s fingerlings allocation programs to local fishermen.
“As the city government thrust to multiply source of income for constituents, I hope that we may be hand-in-hand in preserving and protecting our resources,” Fresnedi told the suspects.
According to an LMO report, at about 12:30 a.m., apprehending officers were doing midnight shift patrol watch in Laguna Lake when they spotted two suspicious men trespassing and illegally harvesting at a fish sanctuary in Bgy.  Sucat.
Rodolfo Asdolo (team leader), Sandy Fontalba and Levieh Lorica arrested the suspects, identified as Isagani Dalura and Toribio Gulmatico, both fishermen from Cupang, Muntinlupa.
Asdolo said the suspects were given a warning and advised not to repeat their wrongdoing for their first offense.
“Illegal fishers will be apprehended in their next offense,” he said.
Fresnedi ordered the Lake Management Office to augment patrol watch in protecting fish sanctuaries at Laguna Lake.
The Fresnedi administration continues to strengthen fish breeding grounds and hatcheries to provide local fishermen with source of income.
