A TABLOID columnist is set to file charges against a Makati judge for extortion in exchange for a favorable ruling in a libel case filed against him.

The columnist, who requested anonymity, said the complaint stemmed from his column exposing the illegal activities of a businessman based in Binondo, Manila.

He said the businessman sued him for libel before a Makati court and the case was raffled off to the judge’s sala.

The columnist believes the case against him is weak but to his dismay, the judge, whose identity is temporarily withheld, decided to hear the case.

He added the judge called him and asked for P1 million in exchange for a decision in his favor.

However, he turned down the judge’s proposal. Later, his lawyer informed him about a rumor circulating at the Makati RTC that the judge will convict him of libel.
