I don’t need Pacquiao -- Floyd

THE possibility of Manny Pacquiao facing Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in a certified blockbuster fight next year may not happen at all.

Shortly after his controversial victory against Victor Ortiz in Las Vegas Saturday (Sunday in Manila) night, Mayweather, Jr. said that he doesn’t need the Filipino ring icon to further cement his status as the sport’s pound-for-pound and money king.

“All Pacquiao is doing is fighting my leftovers,” Mayweather, Jr. said during the post-fight media conference.

“The difference between me and certain fighters is there’s a boss at other companies. I move on when I want to move. I fight when I want to fight.”

The undefeated and crafty boxer, of course, was referring to British Ricky Hatton and Shane Mosley -- fighters Mayweather, Jr. had already defeated before climbing up the ring to meet Pacquiao.

Mayweather, Jr. also beat Juan Manuel Marquez convincingly, and the Mexican and Pacquiao are set to meet for the third time this November to settle their unfinished business.

Because of this, Mayweather, Jr. said that Pacquiao has nothing in the table to offer him.

“How can Pacquiao offer me anything? I do the offering. He has to get his business in order. When he fights, he gives up 30 percent of his check. I get 100 percent,” said Mayweather, Jr.

Maybe Mayweather, Jr. isn’t thinking of how big the money could swell when he agrees to fight Pacquiao by May next year.

Mayweather, Jr. earned $25 million in the Ortiz fight, and his total earnings could reach $40 million once the pay-per-view buys have all come in.

“I don’t need Pacquiao,” said Maywether, Jr. “Every time I go out there I’m going to make $70 million. I don’t need Pacquiao.”
