SOME 1,400 families were rendered homeless when a fire hit a residential area of informal settlers at the Navotas Fish Port Complex yesterday in Navotas City.

National Capital Region Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) director Senior Supt. Wilberto Rico Neil Kwan Tiu said the fire that hit Market 3, Bgy. North Bay Boulevard North (NBBN) was reported to them past 3 a.m. and reached task force Charlie after an hour.
The blaze quickly spread through the houses mostly made up of light materials and were built close together. Tiu said firefighters were having a hard time quelling the blaze because of narrow streets while most residents failed to save their belongings.
Navotas BFP arson investigator SFO1 Celso Alivio said the fire started at Block 9, Market 3, Navotas Fish Port Complex at 3:55 a.m. and was declared fire out at 7:10 a.m. Some 600 houses and other properties worth P750,000 were destroyed.
