A 19-year-old young man, who had been released from prison recently, was shot dead by four riding-in-tandem gunmen suspected to be members of the so-called Deadly Death Squad yesterday in Pasay City.
Senior Supt. Lawrence Coop, chief of Pasay City police, identified the victim as Noel Maraya Jr., of 12 Mars St., Arroville, Sunvalley, Bgy. 198, Zone 20, Pasay City.
Maraya died on the spot from two bullet wounds in the chest.
Coop said the incident took place at 2:30 a.m. on Sun Valley Drive, Bgy. 196, Pasay City, while Maraya was walking together with an unidentified friend on their way home.
Witnesses told police that the suspects, riding on two motorcycles and wearing bonnets, suddenly appeared, blocked the path of the victim and his friend.
They said that the suspects repeatedly shot Maraya and sped away when the victim fell down dead. Maraya’s friend was unharmed.
Police said Maraya, who surrendered to police Oplan Tokhang last December, was recently released from prison due to a robbery/snatching case.
Police refused to comment whether the killing was drug-related, saying a follow-up investigation is ongoing.
