A jobless man who was shot at close range by a lone gunman miraculously survived when the bullet only grazed the back of his head yesterday morning in Malabon City.
Emiric Laurence Cano, 20, of 113 Adante St., Bgy. Tañong, was rushed to Pagamutang Bayan ng Malabon before he was transferred to Tondo Medical Center where he underwent medical treatment and was later permitted to go home by his attending physician.
The incident, according to Malabon police homicide investigators PO2 Jose Romeo Germinal II and PO1 Joenel Claro, happened at around 4 a.m. inside the alley of Sumano Compound, Manapat St., Bgy. Tañong.
Witness told police that the victim was busy using his cellphone when the suspect, identified only as alias “Baylon”, armed with unknown type of handgun, came from behind and shot Cano in the back of his head at point blank range.
Thinking that the victim, who was slumped bloodied on the pavement, was already dead, the suspect immediately fled on foot.
Senior Insp. Paul Dennis Javier said they are still determining the motive behind the incident but they are not discounting revenge since the victim was reportedly accused of involvement in a homicide case which happened recently.
