A newly-elected president of a homeowners association and currently chairman of Bgy. 166 was gunned down by four unidentified masked men inside his office Wednesday afternoon in Caloocan City.
Barangay Chairman Onofre “Obet” delos Santos, 58, of 714 General Luis St., Bgy. 166, Kaybiga, and president of Vista Verde Homeowners Association, succumbed to bullet wounds in the body while being rushed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
Caloocan Police North Extension Office (NEO) desk officer PO1 Divine Grace Rola said Delos Santos, together with certain Zaldy Fernandez, Manny Igliane and Marcelo Lao, were inside the office of the homeowners association on Vista Verde main road, Bgy. 167, Llano Road, when armed masked men barged in at around 3 p.m. and ordered the victim to lie down.
The suspects then repeatedly shot the victim then grabbed his clutch bag containing valuables and cash collections before they fled on two motorcycles.
Elements of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) recovered at the crime scene an empty shell and a deformed slug for cal. .45 pistol which will be submitted to PNP Crime Laboratory for ballistic examination.
In an interview with one of the officials of Bgy. 166, who refused to be identified, he said they have gathered information that their chairman’s name is on the police watchlist as alleged protector of illegal drugs.
However, homicide investigator SPO2 Allan Budios gathered from sources that the victim had received death threats since his assumption as homeowners president of Vista Verde-North Executive Homes.
Caloocan police chief Senior Supt. Johnson Almazan ordered a thorough and impartial investigation into the killing of Delos Santos and bring those responsible to justice.
