EIGHT civilian informants of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency yesterday went home richer by more than P5 million for supplying reliable information which led to the arrest of 38 drug offenders and the seizure of nearly P137 million worth of shabu since 2015.
New PDEA chief Director General Aaron N. Aquino and his predecessor, new Customs Commissioner Isidro S. Lapeña, handed the monetary reward worth a total of P5.070 million to the eight tipsters under the “PDEA Operation: Private Eye,”a reward and incentive scheme designed to encourage private citizens to report any suspected illegal drug activities in their community.
The informants who wore ski masks to protect their identities were identified only through their codenames: June, Sakuragi, Kiko, Spotter, Maximus, Excellente, Boi, and Bald Head.
“I commend them for providing information that led to the arrest of several drug personalities and the seizure of voluminous amounts of methamphetamine hydrochloride, or shabu,” Lapeña said.
Among the eight, “June” received the biggest reward of P2 million for providing the information which led in the confiscation of 38,594.10 grams of shabu and the arrest of two drug suspects during an operation on Macapagal Boulevard, Barangay Don Galo, Parañaque City on June 14, 2016.
“Sakuragi” received P1,224,769.45 cash award after providing information that led to the seizure of 101.373 kilograms of shabu and the arrest of four drug personalities during an anti-narcotics operation in Annapolis, Greenhills, San Juan on December 23, 2016.
On the other hand, a total of P906,728.81 was awarded to “Kiko” for giving the information which led in the recovery of 14,675.963 grams of shabu and the arrest of one drug personality during an entrapment operation at the corner of Roxas Boulevard and Gil Puyat Avenue, Pasay City on September 25, 2015.
“Spotter” was rewarded with P348,512.72 after he supplied the information which resulted in the confiscation of 4,367.82 grams of shabu and the arrest of one suspect during a buy-bust on Jupiter Street, Barangay Bel-Air, Makati City on December 20, 2015.
Another with the codename “Maximus” got P272,013.70 for giving the information which led to the confiscation of 4,970 grams of shabu and the arrest of four drug personalities during an implementation of a search warrant at a residence on Wilson Street, San Juan City on December 26, 2016.
“Excellente” was awarded P217,909.96 after supplying the information which resulted in the confiscation of 3,494 grams of shabu and the arrest of two drug personalities on EDSA Pasay Rotonda, Pasay City on December 1, 2016.
A cash reward of P151,020.20 was given to “Boi” who provided the information that led to the seizure of 1,923.70 grams of shabu and the arrest of 23 drug personalities at Bayview International Tower, Roxas Boulevard, Parañaque City last January 4.
“Bald Head” received P71,081.23 after he supplied the information that led to the arrest of one drug suspect and the seizure of 2,024.20 grams of shabu during a drug bust on Macapagal Boulevard, Pasay City last May 17.
The Private Eye Rewards Committee, composed of members from the academe, non-government organizations, law enforcement, religious and business sectors, approved the resolution granting monetary rewards to the informants after a thorough deliberation.
