THREE lucky overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Kuala Lumpur, Abu Dhabi, and Kuwait received P50,000 each during the traditional “OFW Salubong” festivities at the NAIA Terminal 1 on Wednesday.
Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello lll, Undersecretary Ciriaco Lagunzad and OWWA Administrator Hans Leo Cacdac led the team of government officials and OWWA personnel in welcoming the returning/vacationing OFWs at the NAIA.
Three other OFWs from Taipei, Doha, and Kuwait, received a 32- inch television set while all arriving OFWs were serenaded by a “rondalla” and were given tokens.
All cash prizes and tokens were provided by the OWWA.
The OWWA team started to greet arriving OFWs since December 19 until December 26 and five OFWs were picked at random, each received grocery items.
“Although we have a simpler celebration this year, we wish to brighten the day of our OFWs especially those who are spending the holiday season with their loved ones.
“For DoLE and OWWA, this is the most appropriate time to make the OFWs’ homecoming a day to remember from DOLE-OWWA with love.
“In our small way, we wish all OFWs and their families a blessed and bountiful New Year,” Cacdac said.
