2 more most wanted NPA members captured

TWO more wanted members of the Communist Party of the Philippines/New People’s Army were captured by agents of the Philippine National Police Criminal Investigation and Detection Group in separate manhunt operations in the country last Tuesday, PNP-CIDG chief Director Roel B. Obusan announced yesterday.

One of the suspects, identified as Fernando Quirante, alias ‘Ka Bert,’ tagged as a member of CPP/NPA Komiteng Rehiyon Negros-Leonardo Panligan Command, was apprehended by members of the 4-B Regional Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit and the CIDG Detective and Special Operations Unit during the operation in Bgy. Bahay Pari, Meycauayan City, at around 7:40 a.m. Tuesday, said the PNP-CIDG chief.
   
CIDG Region 4-B chief Supt. Zacarias Noel Villegas said the suspect was arrested on the strength of a warrant for multiple murder issued by a Negros Occidental court. He said the suspect is wanted for multiple murder and listed as the no. 1 most wanted person in Victorias City in Negros Occidental.
   
The second identified as Jojit Cartejenas was arrested in Bgy. Binaton in Digos City, Davao del Sur, by members of the Davao del Sur CIDG with the help of the Davao del Sur Provincial Police Office, said 11th RCIDU chief Supt. Edilberto Leonardo.
   
Cartejenas was described as a former member of the NPA’s Front Committee 52, who was ousted from the rebel movement due to his involvement in illegal drugs. The suspect is wanted for violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
