CAMP Olivas, Pampanga -- A quarry operator and his son were killed while two others were seriously injured when a lone gunman wearing a police uniform peppered them with bullets in Bgy. Balas, Concepcion, Tarlac, on Saturday.
In his report to Tarlac acting police director Senior Supt. Ritchie Posadas, Supt. Miguel Guzman, Concepcion chief of police, identified the slain victims as Jaime Marimla Baquing, 58, and Chody Yusi Baquing, 35.
Injured were Rustico Cunanan Sevilla, 76, of Bgy. Telabanca, Concepcion, and Marcelo Samson Marcelo, 63, of Bgy. Luisa, Magalang, Pampanga.
Guzman said the victims sustained multiple bullets wounds in the body and were brought to nearby hospitals in Concepcion and Tarlac City.
However, both father and his son were declared dead on arrival by attending physicians while Sevilla and Samson are now recuperating at Tarlac District Hospital in Tarlac City and Dr. Eutique Atanacio Memorial Hospital in Concepcion town.
Guzman said three suspects perpetrated the crime. They arrived at the victims’ house at around 7 a.m. on board a white Hi-Ace Van (ADJ 2035). One of the suspects wearing a police uniform alighted from the van and knocked at the steel gate of the house.
One of the caretakers of the house, identified as Frederick Mungcal, 34, of Bgy. Sto. Rosario, Capas, Tarlac, opened the gate and met the suspect, who introduced himself as a policeman and hinted that his companions at the van were interested in buying sand.
When the caretaker was about to inform the wife of the victim about the sale of sand, the suspect pulled out a gun from his waist and fired successive shots at the victims who at that time were drinking coffee a few meters from the gate.
After the shooting, the suspects fled towards Capas town aboard their getaway car.
Guzman said two of the suspects were arrested shortly after the shooting through the help of CCTV camera footages installed along the highway of Concepcion.
He said his men took three hours to locate the suspects who were spotted at Bgy. Alfonso, Concepcion.
At 11 a.m., police set up a blockade to intercept the suspects but when the lawmen flagged them down, they were met with successive gunfire, prompted them to return fire.
One of the suspects, identified as Bernard Nucup, 21, of Bgy. San Francisco, Magalang, Pampanga, was injured and was rushed to Concepcion District Hospital while his companion, Hernan Galang, 24 of Bgy. Mabato-bato, also in Magalang, was arrested.
Police said the remaining suspect is now the object of a massive manhunt after he escaped during the encounter.
A SOCO team from Tarlac Police Office led by Supt. Jessica Quilang arrived and processed the crime scene. A Colt cal. .45 pistol loaded with bullets reportedly belonging to the suspects were recovered by the police.
Posadas said his men are now investigating the motive behind the killing and the identity of the gunman in police uniform.
