SAN Jose City -- A regional trial court in this city has convicted a suspected drug user for possession of illegal drugs, a police report said yesterday.

Found guilty beyond reasonable doubt by the RTC Branch 38 for violation of Section 11 of Article II of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 was Alvin Balucanag.

Police said Balucanag is also facing trial for another case of violation of Sections 5 and 11 of Article II of R. A. 9165 with Criminal Case Nos. 4518-2017 and 4519-2017.

In handing down the verdict, Judge Leo Cecilio D. Bautista sentenced the accused to a maximum penalty of imprisonment of 14 years and six months to a minimum of 12 years, four months and one day.

Bautista also ordered the accused to pay a fine of P300,000 with a subsidiary imprisonment for non-payment thereof.

City police commander Supt. Reynaldo SG. dela Cruz said the court decision stemmed from a drug case filed against the suspect in 2014.

He identified the two arresting officers or affiants of the case as PO3 Louie Gosuico and PO2 Gerald Afable.
