MC rider hits AUV, run over by truck

A 45-YEAR-OLD honeybee vendor died when he was ran over by a dump truck after he was thown off his motorcycle which bumped the rear end of a KIA Besta utility vehicle along the highway in Bgy. Quilitisan, Calatagan, Batangas on Thursday.

Police identified the victim as Eduardo Cruzat de Castro, 45, married and a resident of Bgy. Balibago, Calatagan.

Bgy. Chairman Danilo Quidem informed the Calatagan Municipal Police Station of the accident which occurred at 1 p.m.

Based on the police investigation, De Castro’s Rusi motorcycle was tailing the KIA Besta driven by Ignacio Causapin Tenorio, 53, along Bgy. Carretonan when De Castro decided to overtake but he miscalculated and hit the AUV’s rear body.

The impact threw De Castro off his bike and landed on the concrete road but  a Fuso dump truck of KFHM Enterprises Co. travelling from the opposite direction accidentally ran him over.
    
Cruzat died from severe injuries. The truck’s driver, 31-year-old Mark Macaraig of Bgy. Bawi, Padre Garcia, Batangas, was detained at the police holding cell for proper disposition.
    
Meanwhile, four suspected pushers were nabbed by the Batangas provincial police while selling drugs in Bgy. Banaba East, Batangas City.
    
Provincial police director Senior Supt. Randy Quines Peralta identified the suspects as Edilberto Tolentino, 63, single; Jonafer Parohinog alias Jonafel, 38, single; Ana Cecilia Tolentino alias Cecil, 46, married; and Alfredo Guevarra alias Al, 49, married, all jobless and known as pushers and residents of Bgy. Banaba East, Batangas City.
    
The suspects were arrested at 1 a.m. while selling illegal drugs.
    
Police seized from the suspects several pieces of heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, the P1,000 bill marked money and a Cal. 38 pistol.
    
The suspects were detained facing charges of Violation of Secs. 5 and 11, Art. II of RA 9165 and RA 10591.
