AGENTS of the Police Regional Office 4-B arrested the president of the Association of Barangay Captains in Victoria, Mindoro Oriental during an anti-narcotics operation Tuesday afternoon, PRO4-B director Chief Supt. Wilben M. Mayor announced yesterday.
Mayor said Amando de Sagun Orbeta yielded 12 heat-sealed plastic sachets containing suspected shabu, a marked P1,000 bill paid to him by an undercover officer and cash amounting to P31,580 in different denominations during the buy-bust operation in Bgy. Babangonan at around 4:15 p.m. Tuesday.
“We consider the suspect as a high-value drug target in Mimaropa region since he is an elected public official,” the official said.
Mayor said members of the PRO4-B Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit and the Provincial Public Safety Company, in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, arrested the barangay captain following weeks of surveillance regarding his involvement in illegal drug trafficking and abuse in the province.
The suspect was immediately brought to the RPDEU headquarters for booking and documentation.
Mayor said the ABC president will be facing non-bailable charges for selling of drugs under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
