AN alleged bodyguard of a mayoralty bet in Gerona, Tarlac, is now being sought by the local police for allegedly threatening to shoot two supporters of his employer’s rival.
A Crime Incident Investigation Report from the Gerona Municipal Police Station showed that Danilo Sapon, alias ‘Butak,’ of Bgy. Abagon, Gerona, confronted one Stanley Balbin, 48, and Melvin Saludez, 42, for distributing campaign materials of a rival of his employer, Gerona Councilor-turned-mayoral bet Elyo Eclar, in Sitio Ligtasan at 5:58 p.m. Thursday.
At the height of their discussion, the suspect allegedly pulled out a pistol of an unknown caliber from his sling bag and pointed the weapon at the victims while ordering them to leave the place. Balbin left and immediately went to the Gerona Police Station to file a complaint.
An alert team from the local police rushed to the site but failed to arrest the suspect. The case is still being investigated as of press time.
The suspect will be facing cases for violation of the gun ban law and grave threats.
As of yesterday, Philippine National Police spokesman Chief Supt. Wilben M. Mayor said there were already 3,992 gun ban offenders arrested nationwide since last January 10.
The strict enforcement of the prohibition on the unauthorized carrying of firearms and other deadly weapons in the streets during the election period has led to the seizure of 3,222 firearms and nearly 35,000 other deadly weapons, including over 33,000 various live ammunition, said Mayor.
