TAYABAS City -- A wanted felon, who was also a subject of an attempted rape incident, was wounded in a shootout with policemen who were about to arrest him in Bgy. Putol, here, an hour after midnight yesterday.
Quezon police director Senior Supt. Rhoderick Armamento said Jerwin Molina, 21, of said village, sustained a gunshot wound in the body and is now confined at Quezon Medical Center in Lucena City.
Molina, according to Armamento, has been wanted for illegal possession of firearm charges and listed as the city’s 11th most wanted felon.
City police director Supt. Arturo Brual said Molina’s arrest took place at 1:15 a.m. while his men were about to serve a warrant for his arrest.
Coincidentally, Brual said that when his men arrived in the area using a police vehicle, some village officials flagged them down and asked for police assistance.
Brual said the village officials at that time were running after a young man who was complained by one Aiza Gomez of attempted rape. He said it turned out that the young man was Molina.
“According to the woman, Molina barged into her house minutes after midnight and tried to rape her but she resisted by shouting for help, prompting the suspect to flee,” said Brual.
He said Molina was no longer around when his men arrived at the suspect’s house but a police “asset” told them that Molina was spotted at the adjacent village of Domoit at the boundary of this city and Lucena.
In a follow up operation, Brual said his men were able to locate Molina but the latter, who was armed with a revolver, tried to shoot the approaching policemen.
“Luckily, the revolver did not go off but when the suspect tried to pull its trigger for the second time, one of my men quickly opened fire, hitting him in the stomach,” he said.
When neutralized, Brual said the suspect’s gun turned out to be a home-made revolver loaded with six bullets for M-16 rifle. He said the suspect also yielded a knife.
