WHILE he disagrees with people who want President Benigno Aquino III impeached, House Independent Minority Leader Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez wants President Benigno Aquino III to face the people and tell all the information he had about the Mamasapano incident.

According to Romualdez, neither resignation of the President the solution to the crisis that stemmed from the massacre of 44 police commandos on a mission to get an international terrorist.

“Impeachment is far gone already. The process will overtake itself. So let’s not go along that line. All that we want ay sabihin ang totoo, yung lahat para tapos na ito,” Romualdez said.

The Aquino administration is now in crisis following the tragic death of 44 commandos of the Philippine National Police Special Action Force (SAF) in Mamasapano, Maguindanao on January 25.

The SAF men were deployed on a secret mission to get international terrorist Zulkifli Bin Hir alias Marwan and his deputy, Filipino bomb maker Abdul Basit Usman, in Brgy. Tukanalipao.

While the operation was successful because the assault team killed Marwan, the SAF men were slaughtered by armed men of the Moro Islamic  Liberation Front (MILF) and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF).

Different sectors want President Aquino to be impeached for the botched operation and for allowing resigned police Director General Alan Purisima to lead the mission despite being suspended over a graft issue.

Other people want President Aquino to step down believing that he can no longer lead the country.

But Romualdez said it is better if President Aquino finishes his term if only he would answer the questions of the people with sincerity and compassion.

“People want him to resign. He does not want to come out and face the people. He should face the people,” Romualdez said.

He added that this incident must be an eyeopener to the government and ensure that this will not happen again.

“We cannot close on all these. Let’s learn from this mistake of the past so as not to repeat it,” he added.
