MARY the Queen and SPCC came through with contrasting victories in the 17 years old and under category in the 2017 Youth Basketball Cup Next Level basketball tournament at the DPS covered court in Commonwealth Ave, Quezon City last Sept. 9.
Mary the Queen outsteadied Power, 85-78, behind the solid performance of Gerry’s Grill ‘Best Player of the Game’ awardee John Gabriel.
Gabriel finished with 12 points, five rebounds and three steals to power Mary the Queen to victory over Power.
SPCC relied on Andrei Marquez’s 24 points, three rebounds, three assists and three steals in the lopsided victory over Roces.
In the 15 years old and under category, St. Ignatius outplayed Rocves, 85-77.
Mac Pastrana led St. Inatius with 18 points, four assists and four steals.
Last Sept. 3, Diliman Preparatory School, Mary the Queen and Power hurdled their respective rivals in the 17-under
Polo Salazar exploded with 15 points, four assists and four steals as DPS routed MJAN, 100-40.
Salazar was named as Gerry’s Grill “Best Player of the Game” awardee.
Mary the Queen relied on Josh Valencia’s 31 points, eight assists, four rebounds and three steals to roll back Warriors, 106-100.
Power outlasted Spartans, 88-77, behind Mike Morales’ 20 points and five rebounds.
In other games, MJAN nipped MBC, 80-73, in the 15-under category; and Warriors humbled Roces II, 86-73, in the 13-uner division.
The prestigious tournament is organized by the MBR Sports, headed by former PBA player-turned-champion coach Rensy Bajar.
Supporting the weekend-only competition are Diliman College president and former Sen. Nikki Coseteng, Gerry’s Grill, Tom’s World, Rebisco, Pocari Sweat, Hygienix, Jollibee and RB Sports and Apparel.
