Sta. Cruz in easy win

PAETE, Laguna -- Sta. Cruz  made it two wins in a row by blasting  Luisiana, 98-43, even as Paete and  Lumban defeated  their respective rivals in the second round  of  eliminations in the first Cong. Benjie C. Agarao-4th District  Inter-Town 22 years  old  and under men’s  basketball championship at the Agarao gym here Saturday (Feb.11). 

Arlan Santos  and John Zernan Hernandez  scored 14 points apiece  for Sta. Cruz, which  played with another solid team effort under coach  Robert Abetria
   
Three other mainstays -- Glenn Jahiz  Madiz, Ronald Elca and Vince Vila -- also scored in  double figures  for Sta. Cruz, which debuted with a 93-84 win over Lumban last Feb. 5.
   
Madiz  finished with 13 points while Elca and Vila contributed 12 points.
   
Halftime  score  was  52-23 for Sta. Cruz.
   
Vince Plata  paced  the  Andy Uy-mentored Luisiana with 17 points,  followed   by John  Michael  Eleazar  with  eight,  Harvey Ian Cariño with six and  Eugene Graida and Paul   Justine  Corcuera with  four each.
   
In other Group B match, Lumban  edged   Sta.  Cruz, 99-98, to even its record  to 1-1.
   
Julius Herradura exploded with  35  points to  power Lumban, which bounced back from last weekend’s loss to Sta. Cruz.
   
Burgos  and  Angelo Liwanag added 23 and 22  points, respectively, for  Lumban of coach Alfred Mendoza.
   
Diether John Gonzales led Pagsanjan  with 25 points, followed  by Jimbo Eleva with 19 and Darwin  Soriano with 14.
   
In  the  lone Group A encounter, host Paete demolished Cavinti, 103-82.
   
John Paulo Tam  scored  24 points and  Reynato Tatac  Jr. added  14 points for  Paete,which is playing under coach  Luis Cadang.
   
Cavinti was paced  by  Aljohn Fajardo (34 points), Vincent Altar (9),  Atienzo (8) and  Jay-Jay Araneta (7).
