Mayor Honey Lacuna reported that a total of 11,620 erstwhile unemployed Manilans now have jobs, even as more are up for grabs.

According to Lacuna, the said number of jobs have been provided by the city government of Manila for its unemployed sector for the period of from January 1 to June 7, 2023.

“Congratulations po sa inyong lahat at sa atin pong employers na walang sawang tumutulong sa lungsod ng Maynila, maraming, maraming salamat po at sana ay ‘wag po kayong magsawa na tumulong sa ating mga kababayan dito sa ating lungsod,” the mayor said.

Lacuna assured that the provision of jobs is a continuing thing in Manila through job fairs being undertaken by the public employment service office or PESO, headed by Fernan Bermejo.

It was learned that in the mayor’s “Kalinga sa Maynila,” a weekly public forum being held in various barangays where the basic services of City Hall are virtually brought right to the communities, job fairs are also being done on the side and that so far, 421 have been hired on the spot.

“Nakapag-ugnayan na kayo, nasabi nyo pa sa pamahalaan ang problema ninyo and at the same time, nakapag-avail pa kayo ng services, plus kung naghahanap kayo ng trabaho, baka ma-hire pa kayo on the spot,” she said.

For those who do not make it to the weekly “Kalinga sa Maynila” being carried out on Wednesdays, Lacuna assured that there are still other ways to seek jobs, such as the special recruitment activity at the PESO annex office, Park ‘N Ride Building, Lawton, Ermita, which starts on June 13, 2023, Mondays to Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Meanwhile, Bermejo said that of the 11,620 total jobs created from January 1 to present, 3,060 were hired on the spot; 4,876 were on placement reports of employers; 2,366 , Joyride Philippines; 200, Borzo Philippines,; 16, Lalamove Philippines and 91. TUPAD beneficiaries.

Citing the placement report of employers, Lacuna said 22 senior citizens and 12 persons with disability were hired by Shakeys ; Jollibee, 17 senior citizens and 15 PWDs; Peri-Peri, four senior citizens and 4 PWDs and KFC, 33 senior citizens.

Under the special program for the employment of students (SPES) for students, 46 were hired by the KNC Group of Companies; Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, 32 and Lay Bare, three. During the job fair held at the Universidad de Manila days ago, a total of 531 were also hired on the spot.

The mayor said that the city government is continously looking for senior citizens who are still able and willing to work.

Job fair caravans have also been scheduled on June 9 (Friday) in Barangay 105 in Tondo from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and again on June 16, in Barangay 103, also in Tondo.

Lacuna advised jobseekers to wear casual attire, bring at least ten copies of resume, bring their own ballpens, follow health protocols and make sure that they have taken meals and say ‘thank you’ to their interviewers, whether or not they get hired.
