12 held in Ecija illegal ‘bularet’ operations

STO. DOMINGO, Nueva Ecija — Twelve persons, including a 17-year-old minor were rounded up after being caught engaged in illegal cockfighting or “bularet” operations here on Wednesday afternoon.

In his report to provincial police director Col. Jaime O. Santos, Major Abraham C. Atencio, town police head, identified those nabbed as Junamar Pacunla, 46, (financier); Jojo Pacunla, 46; Ronald Dinulan, 44; Angelo Binuya, 28; Eduard Fernandez, 19; Albert Lumawang, 19; Robinson Dinulan, 53; Jomarie Macatuno, 28; Miguelito Tumandong, 63; Mario Lumawang, 24, all of Bgy. Malayantoc.

Atencio said the suspects were nabbed in the said barangay at 3:20 p.m. following a tip from a concerned citizen that an illegal gambling operation was ongoing in the said area.

Recovered from the suspects were four live fighting cocks, two dead roosters, two gaffs, bet money amounting to P1,680, a black Kawasaki Bajaj tricycle with 7144 CZ, a red Honda kolong-kolong, and a red SYM motorcycle.

Charges for violation of PD 1602 as amended by Republic Act 9287 are set to be filed against the arrested suspects before the provincial prosecutor’s office.
