12 nabbed in Ecija illegal gambling raids

CABANATUAN CITY — At least 12 men were rounded up after police operatives swooped down on two suspected illegal gambling lairs during separate operations conducted in the cities of Gapan and Muňoz on Sunday.

In Gapan City, police led by Lt. Col. Edilmar G. Alviar identified the eight suspects nabbed for illegal cockfighting as Jefferson Valeroso, 23, the alleged financier of the illegal gambling operation, of Bgy. Sto. Tomas, Peňaranda; Joselito Catacutan, 51, Rolando Razon, 29, Juanito Ybaňez, 69, and Christopher de Guzman, 45, all of Bgy. Macabaklay, Gapan City; Ruben Santos, 44, of Bgy. Maburak, Johnny Oritz, 63, of Bgy. Malimba, and Wilson Trinidad, 39, of Bgy. Capalangan.

Newly-installed provincial police head Col. Jaime O. Santos said the eight suspects were caught in the act of conducting illegal tupada operations in Sitio Sapang Kawayan, Bgy. Macabaklay at 12:45 p.m.

Seized during the operation were two fighting cocks, gaffs, and cash bets amounting to P4,720.

In the Science City of Muňoz, police nabbed four men for playing an illegal card game called “Pusoy Best Way” and seized bets worth P2,272.

Police head Lt. Col. Jaime B. Quiocho identified the arrested suspects, who were collared in Bgy. Gabaldon, as Crisanto De Guzman, Bernadino Indab Jr., Ramil Tubay, and Ranilo Ramos.
