A TOTAL of 162 women became ‘June brides’ after Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna helped them get married.

Lacuna, under the authority vested in her as city mayor, solemnized the marriage of 102 couples at the PLM grounds while the remaining 60 got wedded in the historic San Agustin Church in Manila.

It was learned that the lady mayor took care of everything for the said couples who did not have to spend a single centavo for their decision to legalize their union.

According to Lacuna, the couples were not chosen but actually applied to get married, either civilly or in Church.

The expenses for the wedding of the said lucky couples were shouldered by the mayor and did not cost the city government a single centavo.

Lacuna took care of everything from the documentary expenses, wedding rings, candles, flowers, venue, transportation and even the restaurant reception, among others, complete with pocket money and wedding gifts.

According to the mayor’s chief of staff Joshue Santiago, the mayor had been doing such favors for unmarried couples who seek her help to get wedded, from the time that she was City Councilor and Vice Mayor.

The 162 couples came from various parts of the city who have been living together for years.

Most of them remained unmarried for lack of funds to cover the expenses entailed by civil or Church wedding.
