GOOD news to the senior citizens of Manila.

Mayor Honey Lacuna said it’s their turn to receive gifts from the city, as she and Vice Mayor Yul Servo will already begin the distribution of special Christmas gift boxes for the some 179,000 senior citizens in the city, which she hopes to finish in two days’ time.

The gift-giving for the elderly is slated on December 14 and 15, after Lacuna and Servo were done distributing food boxes containing Noche Buena items to each of the families residing in Manila, totalling 695,000 in all.

Lacuna’s spokesperson Atty. Princess Abante explained that the Christmas boxes for the senior citizens, containing tumbler, cookies and coffee, is apart from the food boxes given to each family.

According to Abante, all senior citizens will get one Christmas box each, meaning if there are two senior citizens in a single household, both will be receiving the said gift.

“This is the mayor’s simple gesture of appreciation and gratitude to the elderly population who have spent their most productive years contributing to the progress of the city,” said Abante.

The lady mayor has embarked on many programs aimed at protecting the welfare of the senior citizens, in addition to her constantly calling on the residents of the city to take good care of their parents and grandparents at all times.

“Asahan po ninyo ang patuloy na pagkalinga at pagmamahal na ipadarama natin sa Maynila para sa lahat ng ating nakatatandang Manilenyo. Muli po, happy mga minamahal naming nanay tatay lolo at lola,” Lacuna said.

She said that apart from the continuous vaccination of senior citizens through the efforts of the Manila Health Department headed by Dr. Poks Pangan, the office of the senior citizens’ affairs or OSCA is also providing bread and milk for those who are applying for senior citizen cards or IDs at the OSCA office.

Lacuna, a doctor, had also been bringing medical services to senior citizens specially at the sidelines of the “Kalinga sa Maynila” forum that she holds from one barangay to another.

The mayor also brings wheelchairs for those who have been rendered immobile due to illness or old age and then does door-to-door visits of identified patients after holding the said forum, in order to personally deliver milk to senior citizens and medical assistance to those who need it.

During the height of the pandemic, Lacuna went to the extreme by vaccinating bedridden residents and those whose mobility are affected in such a way that they could not go to the vaccination sites, getting infected with COVID-19 in the process.
