18 fire volunteers injured in Tondo fire

AT least 18 fire volunteers were injured during a fire that hit an old building in Tondo, Manila on Thursday night.

The victims were identified as Christian Cabuhay, 35; Genorskie Saldaña, 35; Arjay Parsalo, 21; Paolo De Malata, 28; Danjake Kawaling; Marlon Floransa; Ejay Castillo, 24; Angel John Bacani, 30; Russell Poblete, 47; Patricia Libis; Danjane Fajardo; Maan Floranza; Bien Antonio; Julio Rafael Lim; John Amene; Patricia Acedo; Joanna Mae Mandap and Rhazel Jade Parsario, 21. All of them sustained first to second degree burns in various parts of the body.

An initial report from the Manila Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said that the fire hit the building located at 0383 Guidote St., Balut, Tondo.at 7:51 p.m.

The fire reportedly began at the fourth floor of the said building which has a roof deck and mixed occupancy. It is said to be owned by a certain Anna Lim Koo and occupied by one “Mr. Soon. ” Said floor reportedly houses a repair and storage area.

Initial estimated damage to property was placed at P19,985,000 and as of this writing, the fire is still being contained.
