19-year-old woman shot dead by live-in partner

A young woman ended up dead after being shot three times by her live-in partner who refused to agree to her separation plans.

The incident took place at the duo’s home in Permanent Housing in Balut, Tondo, Manila, where the victim, identified only as ‘Tess,’ died instantly due to gunshot wounds in the chest and back.

The suspect, identified as a certain ‘Bart’,37, a businessman, surrendered to the police for fear of reprisal from the victim’s family.

A probe made by PSSg Rodolfo Acosta of the Manila Police District-homicide section said the incident took place at 6:20 p.m. inside the couple’s home.

A CCTV recording showed Cariño leaving and boarding his motorcycle before the victim’s body was found, based on a report to the barangay and the police by an informant.

The victim’s brother told the police that prior to the shooting, the victim intimated that she and the suspect had been in constant fights and that at one time, the suspect fired at the comfort room tiles. Despite the repeated squabbles, the victim and the suspect always patched up.

The brother further said that his sister wanted to break up with the suspect but the latter refused and shot her.

The suspect had been charged with murder at the Manila Prosecutor’s Office and refused to give any statement.
