2 cara y cruz gamblers play for shabu in Navotas

MARITIME police arrested two stevedores suspected to be drug users while betting for a stash of shabu while playing illegal coin games known as “cara y cruz” Tuesday before dawn in Navotas city.

Navotas Maritime Police Station (MARPSTA) head Maj. Rommel Sobrido identified the arrested stevedores as Sherwin Tiu 27 and Ariel Corona, 18, both residing in Bgy North Bay Boulevard North (NBBN) while other gamblers managed to elude arrest.

In his report to Northern NCR MARSTA chief P/Col. Ricardo Villanueva, P/SMSgt. Nemesio “Bong”Garo II said the arrest of the two drug dependents stemmed from a telephone call from concerned citizen received by P/Lt. Erwin Garcia about an ongoing illegal gambling activity along N. Symaco Consignacion, Market 3, Navotas Fish Port Complex, Bgy. NBBN.

Garo said shabu was at stake when Lt. Garcia and his men arrested the suspects. The others scampered in different directions.

Lawmen recovered a plastic sachet of shabu worth P500 from the suspect, coins used as toss coin and P230 bet money.

Sobrido said the suspects were presented for inquest proceedings before the Navotas City Prosecutor’s Office on charges of illegal gambling, disobedience to person in authority, violating curfew ordinance and violation of R.A 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.
