2 gunrunning suspects killed in Pandi encounter

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga – Two suspected gunrunners were killed in an encounter with elements of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Region 3 and Bulacan police in Pandi town last Wednesday night.

Col. Amante Daro, CIDG-3 regional officer, identified the killed suspects as Wilfredo Togonon and one alias “Bungo”, both of legal age.

Operatives conducted the firearm buy-bust against the two suspects for violating Republic Act 10591.

During the transaction, the suspects noticed they were dealing with police operatives and ran inside Togonon’s house.

The suspects allegedly fired at the pursuijg cops, prompting the lawmen to fire back resulting to the death of Togonon and alias ‘Bungo.’

The suspects were brought to the Sta. Maria General Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Recovered from the suspects were a cal. .38 revolver with live ammunition and one cal. .45 pistol with magazine and live ammunition. The P3,500 marked money used in the operation was also recovered.

CIDG-3 said Togonon is believed to be tje leader of a gun-for-hire group while Bungo is allegedly a gun-for-hire involved in robbery-hold up.

Meanwhile, two male suspects identified as Clerick Antonio, 37, and a minor were arrested in a separate firearm buy-bust conducted by the CIDG and Bulacan police in San Jose Del Monte City also last Wednesday.

Seized from the arrested suspects were some 51 grams of shabu worth P346,000 and two cal. .38 revolvers.

The suspects are facing charges for violation of RA 10591.
