2 men nabbed for try to steal bikes

FOR attempting to steal two bicycles in separate areas in Manila, two men were arrested by the Manila Police District-Station 6 early yesterday morning.

Nabbed were Melford Lapura, a kitchen staff, of 2193 Road 16 and Norman Ricarte, said to be a member of the ‘Sigue-Sigue Sputnik’ gang, 36, of 2186 Road 8, both of Fabie State, Sta. Ana, Manila.

In his complaint, Marvin Capada, a cheque representative, also of Sta. Ana, Manila, sakd he was in his living room when his dog began barking continuously. He checked and saw suspect Lapura already carrying his mountain bike worth P14,000.

The victim chased Lapura while shouting for help, until bystanders responded as the suspect reached A. Francisco Street, leading to the arrest of the suspect.

Meanwhile, Ricarte was arrested also after being cornered when he took the mountain bike of victim Neil Jasper Mahanti, 22, of 1567 Pedro Gil St., Paco, Manila, worth P9,000.

Mahanti was said to be resting in his home when he heard a noise outside. When he got out, he saw the suspect with his bike and also chased him down until the suspect got cornered with the aid of concerned citizens.

The suspect was brought to the Barangay 814 before he was turned over to the MPD-Station 10.

Both suspects were charged with robbery and theft before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office.
