2 nabbed in illegal Ecija tupada on Good Friday

CABANATUAN CITY — At least 22 individuals engaged in illegal cockfighting or tupada operations were apprehended in three separate anti-illegal gambling operations in Nueva Ecija on Good Friday, police reported yesterday.

Provincial police director Col. Jaime O. Santos said his men conducted the successful separate operations after getting tips from concerned citizens about the on-going illegal cockfighting activities in Purok 1, Bgy. Villarosa, Licab at 11 a.m., in Bgy. Lamorito and Maybubon, Guimba at 2:30 p.m., and in Purok 7, Bgy. Caridad Norte, Llanera at 4:40 p.m.

In Licab, 12 suspected illegal gamblers, including the operator identified as Aurelio Santos, 58, of Bgy. Caingin, Guimba, were arrested. Seized during the operation were six fighting cocks, a pair of gaff, two limber pens and cash bet amounting to P6,300.

In Guimba, five suspects including two minors were rounded up after being caught in the act of engaging in the illegal gambling activity. Also seized were four fighting cocks and some P2,500 cash bets.

In Llanera, Santos said five illegal gambling men were nabbed while seized were four fighting cocks, a metallic gaff and cash bets amounting to P900.
