NAVOTAS City Mayor Toby Tiangco ordered the closure of two computer shops for having no business permits and for allowing entry to minors.
Tiangco reiterated his warning that internet cafes, computer shops or piso net should remain close because they cater mostly to young clients who are prohibited from leaving their homes and are placed under a 24-hour curfew.
“We want to keep our children safe in their homes. We do not want them in computer shops or out in the streets where they could contract the dreaded disease,” he said.
“Parents should discipline and guard their children. Their negligence can cause a setback to our fight against COVID-19,” he added.
City Ordinance No. 2020-33 imposed a 24-hour curfew on residents below 18 years old while Navotas is under community quarantine or in any form of lockdown required by the national or local government.
Parents or guardians who will let their children roam the streets or play or loiter outside their home will be fined P1,000 or P2,000 for the first or second offense. P3,000 or imprisonment and P4,000 or imprisonment will be levied on third, fourth and succeeding offenses.
Since March this year, the City Business Permits and Licensing Office has issued closure notices to 45 computer shops.
Meanwhile, the Navotas City Police chief P/Col. Rolando Balasabas reported that as of September 6, 1,187 minors and adults have been apprehended for violating the curfew ordinances.
Aside from the 24-hour curfew for minors, Navotas implements an 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. for adults who are not Approved Persons Outside of Residence per guidelines of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.
