TWENTY two gold medals and counting.
World karate champion James De los Santos added another gold medal to his collection by winning the Athletes E-Tournament Cash Award Series 2 e-kata individual senior’s male category last Tuesday.
De los Santos won over Matias Moreno Domont of Switzerland, 25.4-24.6, in the final to clinch the gold medal.
That brought De los Santos’ total haul to 22 golds in a colorful career that saw him dominate his rivals with surprising ease and become the World No. 1 in online karate competitions.
“I’m happy to win my 22nd gold.This will add more points to help me widen the gap in the virtual e-kata world rankings,” said De los Santos, who took over the No. 1 spot from Eduardo Garcia of Portugal.
The 30-year-old De los Santos vowed to work even harder in the coming tournaments.
“I am looking forward to more tournaments for me this month. I stay motivated,” added De los Santos, who also topped the NOX Dojo Markham City Open last Saturday, and the Okinawa e-Tournament World Series 2 last Sunday for his 20th and 21st gold.
De los Santos prevailed over Moreno, 25.3-24.2, in the NOX Dojo, for his 20th gold medal.
His 21st gold came in the Okinawa e-Tournament where he won over Alfredo Bustamante of the United States, 24.8-24.4.
