3 men held for illegal logging in Ecija river

GABALDON, Nueva Ecija — Police and local environment authorities on Wednesday arrested three men caught doing illegal logging activities at the Santor River here and seized several illegally-sawn logs worth about P20,000, it was learned yesterday.

Provincial police officer-in-charge Col. Marvin Joe C. Saro said the successful anti-illegal logging operation was pulled off after his men got a tip from a concerned citizen that the illicit activity was taking place in the river located in Bgy. South Poblacion at 10:30 p.m.

Saro said the local police immediately coordinated with the municipal environment and natural resources office and set up the operation, resulting to the arrest of the three suspects, who were identified as Crisanto Nuñes, 35, John Marc Vicencio, and Christian Lañosa, 19, all of Bgy. South Poblacion.

Also seized were 16 pieces of illegally-cut logs of various sizes with a volume of 418 board feet and valued at P18,810.

Saro said charges for violation of P.D.705 were filed against the suspects while the seized illegal lumber were turned over to the MENRO here for proper disposition.
