33 NPA members yield to PNP authorities

THIRTY-THREE New People’s Army (NPA) rebels yielded to Philippine National Police (PNP) authorities on Monday, the 52nd founding anniversary of the underground armed leftist movement, PNP chief, General Debold M. Sinas announced yesterday.

Sinas said13 of the NPA guerrillas yielded to Police Regional Office 12 (PRO12) officials in South Cotabato and surrendered a number of high-powered weapons.

Citing a report from PRO12 director, Brigadier Gen. Michael John F. Dubria, the top cop said the 13 led by one ‘Ka Jeff’ were all members of the NPA Guerrilla Fronts 72 and 73 operating in South Cotabato specifically in the rural parts of Koronadal City and in Tampakan and Banga municipalities.

The 13 yielded to officers of the 1st and 2nd South Cotabato Provincial Mobile Force Company with their weapons composed of an M-16 automatic rifle, M-1 Garand rifle, Carbine rifle with a loaded magazine, oUzi machine pistol, command-detonated improvised explosive device, five IEDs and their components, two M-16 magazines with 30 live ammunition and several CPP-NPA flags.
