37 sabungeros nabbed in Batangas

THIRTY-SEVEN illegal gambling suspects were arrested in separate police raids in three towns in Batangas over the weekend.

A report to Batangas police director Col. Rex Arvin T. Malimban by San Jose Municipal Police Station chief Major Neil Christoper Gaspar said five suspects were arrested in Bgy. Sto. Cristo, at 12:40 p.m. They were identified as Ponciano Rodriguez, Joseph Villacastin, Virgilio Hernandez, Noli Perez, and Romer Carandang. Police recovered from the two suspects fighting cocks, two gaffs, gaff cover, and bet money amounting to P1,250 in different denominations.

Around 2 p.m, the same day Gaspar said they also nabbed sabungeros in Bgy. Lapu-Lapu 1st. Arrested were Ricky Almonte, Mariano Belmonte, Ruben Vargas, Chino Galiposo, Mark Ilagan, Petronio Mendoza, Maximo Bolanos, Adrian Bautista, and Jesse Bolanos. Seized from them were seven fighting cocks, four gaffs, and P3,500 bet money.

In Ibaan town, joint operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), together with the Provincial Intelligence Unit (PIU) of the Batangas Provincial Police Office and Ibaan MPS personnel said they apprehended 19 sabungeros in Bgy. Malainin at 3 p.m.

Recovered during the raid were cash amounting to P29,870, two gaffs, small brown attachè case containing cockfighting paraphernalia, six pieces of yellow paper with a list of bet money, two pads of unused betting slips, seven live fighting cocks, pit fence, and four pieces of used betting slip lists dated January 10, 2021.

The Lemery town police reported that they collared four suspected persons in a tupada raid in Bgy. Cahilan 1, here at around 2 p.m. and confiscated fighting cocks, gaffs, and bet money.
