4 Chinese nationals held for not wearing masks, face shields in Ecija

SCIENCE CITY OF MUŇOZ — Four Chinese nationals were apprehended by patrolling lawmen for allegedly not wearing face masks and face shields while walking along the highway fronting the Central Luzon State University Friday night here.

Arrested were Zhanhao Xia, 28, single, of Henan; Xuelin Dai, 36, married, of Anhui; Renkai Lu, 22, and Tianchen Wu, 25, both single, and of Jiangsu, all of China.

Provincial police-officer-in-charge Col. Marvin Joe C. Saro said the arrested foreigners also failed to present the necessary quarantine documents such as quarantine and travel pass.

Saro said a mobile police team led by Lt. Sherwin Veloria was patrolling Maharlika Highway at 9 p.m. in Bgy. Bantug when they chanced upon the four suspects walking without wearing face masks and face shields.

Lt. Col. Jaime Quiocho Jr., city police head, said his men politely approached the suspects and asked for their quarantine documents.

Quiocho said the suspects are all residents of SM JAZZ Residences based in Makati City.

The suspects could not explain what they were doing in the area.

“Hindi po nila ma-explain kung bakit sila nandoon,” said Quiocho in his text message yesterday.

Saro said the four suspects will be slapped with charges for violation of Republic Act 11332 or the “Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act” before the city prosecutor’s office here.
