CAMP SIONGCO, Awang, DOS, Maguindanao – Five (5) members of the communist terrorist group (CTG) under the West Daguma Front have decided to return to the folds of the law through the troops of the 37th Infantry (Conqueror) Battalion in Sitio Tinagdanan, Hinalaan, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat.

According to Lieutenant Colonel John Paul Baldomar, Commanding Officer of the 37th Infantry Battalion, the two so-called tribal leaders surrendered on May 26, 2022, and were presented to Brigadier General Eduardo Gubat, 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division, Acting Commander, at 6ID Headquarters while the other three (3) yielded only on the government troops on May 29, 2022.

The surrenderers’ were belonging to the Dulangon-Manobo tribe and members of the Sub-Regional Committee Daguma (SRC-Daguma), West Daguma Front, of the NPA’s Far South Mindanao Region (FSMR).

“We were informed of the desire of these former CTG Combatants to end their armed struggle. We then conducted a dialogue and an outreach program in their community together with the local government officials of Kalamansig. These activities enlightened the minds of the two tribal leaders together with the three (3) followers and made them decide to surrender for the betterment of their tribe,” Lt. Col. Baldomar said.

CTG members in Sultan KudaratColonel Michael Santos, 603rd Infantry Brigade Commander said that the five NPAs yielded due to the strengthened Community Support Program (CSP) of the 37IB troops and also with the help of local officials through the local peace engagement in the area. “They voluntarily call for ‘Antang-Antang’ a Manobo term meaning negotiation with Lt. Col. Baldomar. During the negotiations, it was revealed that these former rebels were respected tribal leaders of the Dulangan-Manobo tribe in their area”, Col. Santos, stated.

BGen. Gubat said that the surrender of these Dulangan Manobo Tribe in Kalamansig is a clear manifestation they realized that they had been used and manipulated by the NPA for their own interests. “This is an indication of the continuous downfall of the CTG influence in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat and the eventual dismantling of the SRC-Daguma, FSMR,” BGen.

During the first five months of the year, a total of 82 NPA rebels surrendered to the military in the area of Joint Task Force Central.
