At least 5,000 members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) comprised of 3,000 personnel from the Manila Police District (MPD) and 2,000 augmentation force from various law enforcement units will be securing the observance of the Feast of the Black Nazarene in the city of Manila on January 9.

MPD Director PBGen Andre Dizon assured that all security preparations are already in place for the said event, although the traditional ‘Traslacion’ which is attended by millions had been discarded.

Dizon said the event will be marked by a send-off ceremony on January 5 at the Quirino Grandstand at around 3 p.m.

In the said affair, policemen will be detailed at the grandstand where the slated ‘Walk of Faith’ that replaces ‘Traslacion’ will be held instead.

Policemen will also be detailed at the vicinity of the Quiapo Church.

Dizon said that there will be no processions for the replicas of the Black Nazarene like what is being done in the past, adding that if everything goes well, it may be put into consideration as to whether or not the usual processions may already be allowed next year.

The MPD chief called on the devotees to avoid wearing unnecessary jewelry or bringing children with them.
