QUEZON, Nueva Ecija – Police nabbed five women and a man they caught in the act of playing the banned card game “tong-its” during an anti-illegal gambling operation conducted here on Friday night.
Arrested were Eduardo Castillo, 54, farmer; Tarcila Cayaban, 52, housewife; Catherine Doronio, 35, single; Evelyn Castillo, 57; Marian De Leon-Domingo, 33; and Teresita De Leon, 59, all of Purok 3, Bgy. Sta. Rita, this town.
The operation was triggered by a tip from a concerned citizen that an ongoing illegal gambling activity was taking place in the area at 6 p.m.
Town police head Captain Melchor T. Pereja said his men arrested the six suspects outside a house in the barangay.
Seized were two decks of playing cards and bet money amounting to P1,524.
The suspects were placed behind bars and slapped with charges for violation of P.D. 1602 before the provincial prosecutor’s office.
