7 arrested for ‘Bateng-bateng’

SANTIAGO, Ilocos Sur — Police arrested yesterday seven residents for playing ‘Bateng-bateng,’ another form of illegal gambling in this town.

A police report identified the arrested suspects as Lito Pedrozo, hair dresser; Lorna Datu; Diana Abad; Juvy Lodivico; Shirley Ragma, all residents of Bgy. Salincub; Jovi Tobias, diser at 4 Brothers Grocery; Jay-ar Custodio, both residents of Bgy. Caburao; and Christopher Frando, of Bgy. Olo-olo Norte, all of Santiago.

Police said the Santiago PNP conducted anti-illegal gambling operations in Bgy. Salincub, Santiago, resulting to the arrest of the seven suspects who were caught in the act of the illegal cards game.

Confiscated were a set of playing cards and bet money amounting to P1, 425.00 in different denominations.

Police said while one of the suspects identified as Shirley Ragma escaped.

The arrested suspects and the confiscated items were brought to the Santiago PNP station for proper disposition.
