A total of 76 special investigators have been promoted and reclassified as special agents by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

NBI Director Jaime Santiago said that from SI- III with salary grade 18, said agents are now Investigation Agents with salary grade 22.

”Under the NBI Modernization law, once an SI retires, the item shall be considered dissolved. That’s the reason why I requested and pleaded that these SI be reclassified to Agent III, and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and Civil Service Commission (CSC) approved the request,” Santiago said.

The reclassification, it was learned, is retroactive to July 1, 2024 pursuant to Section 3 of Republic Act No. 10867 (National Bureau of Investigation Reorganization and Modernization Act).

Owing to this, the said agents will receive back wages.

“Now that they are eligible for promotion, it is time for them to perform in order that they be promoted to higher positions,” said Santiago.

The NBI chief added that the reclassification was made possible with the help and guidance of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and the Department of Budget and Management (DBM).

Santiago expressed confidence that the reclassified agents will be of big help to the bureau.
