80 tons of food donated by UAE for victims of ‘Carina’

AT least 80 tons of various kinds of food were donated by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) government for victims of typhoon ‘Carina,’ the first such foreign assistance to arrive in the country.

The donation arrived aboard a 747-200 cargo plane at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Tuesday night, July 30, 2024.

The cargo that contained the donation of the UAE through its President, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, contained rice, sugar, salt, milk, dates and other staples.

The food aid was received, on behalf of the Philippine government, by Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian, Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos and Presidential Special envoy for trade and investment with the UAE Kathryna Yu-Pimentel.

They were accompanied by UAE Ambassador to the Philippines Mohamed Obaid Alqataam Alzaabi.

The UAE donation was the first food aid to arrive in the country, following Carina’s onslaught which left Metro Manila and other regions submerged in floodwaters.
