Aboitiz Construction, in partnership with Aboitiz Foundation, Inc., has recently teamed up with Balamban Extensive Skills and Technology, Inc. (BEST) to offer specialized technical training in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) for selected scholars in Cebu.

The training program, part of the company’s corporate citizenship initiatives, aims to equip 11 Cebuanos with in-demand welding skills to enhance their employability in the construction industry. Upon completing the course and earning their TESDA National Certificates, the scholars may be onboarded to Aboitiz Construction’s various maintenance project sites.

“This partnership aims not just to provide training but to open doors. With the support of BEST and Aboitiz Foundation, we were able to offer a free one-month training program to chosen individuals from Cebu to help them acquire TESDA National Certificates—an important credential in their pursuit of employment in the construction industry,” said Karmine Andrea Ching, Senior Assistant Vice President for Business Transformation at Aboitiz Construction.

Romelito Mantuhac, President of BEST, underscored the significance of collaborative efforts. “Partnerships like this signify the collaboration that we need for nation-building. Through this, we empower individuals and help them grow as an agent towards economic growth,” he said.

In line with its continuing workforce development initiatives, Aboitiz Construction, supported by Aboitiz Foundation, also recently concluded a Pipefitting Metallic NC II training for 13 scholars in Bukidnon through the Maces Training Institute, Inc. in the municipality of Kitaotao. Graduates of the program are set to be deployed to Aboitiz Construction’s maintenance project site in Claver, Surigao del Norte.

These programs form part of Aboitiz Construction’s ongoing efforts to bridge the skills gap in the industry, support local communities, and contribute to inclusive economic growth by building a pipeline of skilled Filipino workers.
