ABS-CBN Sports says goodbye

ABS-CBN Sports, which was hit hard by non-renewal of the giant network’s congressional franchise last July, has formally bid adieu yesterday after more than 20 years as coveror of sports events.

Through its sports channel S+A 23, ABS-CBN was home to collegiate athletic leagues UAAP and NCAA, and the semi-pro Premier Volleyball League, as well as blocktimers MPBL and ONE Championship. Defunct basketball leagues MBA and PBL, as well as US basketball leagues NBA and WNBA, and the Philippine Azkals games have been ABS-CBN Sports’ properties.

Aside from its TV production and digital team, talents and cameramen who covered the leagues also lost their livelihoods. Being a national holiday yesterday, the sports division employees had their final day of work last Friday.

By midnight, the ABS-CBN Sports’ website as well as its Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts will no longer be online, with only the YouTube account still accessible.
