AirAsia supports CAB decision to lower fuel surcharge rates

AirAsia Philippines expressed support for the decision of the Civil Aeronautics Board’s (CAB) to lower applicable fuel surcharge rates for domestic and international flights.

In a statement sent to the media by Carlo Carongoy, Communications and Public Affairs External Communications and Public Affairs Manager and Deputy Spokesperson, said the move is expected to be advantageous for guests who may use the additional savings towards other amenities or activities during their trips in the coming months.

The additional savings for our guests, who will not have to bear additional costs, is expected to sustain demand for travel as the summer season comes to a close, he said.

“Any form of reduction in air travel costs is a welcome development for our passengers who may use the additional budget for travel. Now that AirAsia Philippines has opened more international destinations, our guests can use the extra savings toward additional baggage allowance for pasalubong and other activities on their travel bucket list,” said AirAsia Philippines Communications and Public Affairs Country Head Steve Dailisan.

Moreover, he said that the continued lowering of fuel surcharge costs for the past three months has positively affected the travel behavior of guests as manifested in AirAsia Philippines’ March to May bookings which yielded 1.57 million seats which is equivalent to 75% of the pre-pandemic figure.

A Level 4 fuel surcharge means that guests purchasing their tickets next month will only incur an additional surcharge of Php 117 to Php 342 for domestic flights and from P385.70 to P600 for international flights, depending on the distance, Dailisan added.
