Alaska Milk and Union members finalize terms of organizational transformation

As major industries continue to shift throughout the past year’s global pandemic, management at Alaska Milk Corporation (AMC) have come to an agreement with their union members on the terms of the company’s organizational transformation. Affected employees have been assured a support package that includes a severance package almost double of what is mandated by the law, an added gratuity pay, and continued health coverage for both them and their respective dependents.

“We thank the Unions in AMC for their openness to dialogue, which resulted in a suitable package for the affected employees. Both Management and the Unions have always had the welfare of our workers in mind as the most important aspect in this transition,” said Atty. Maria Angela Esquivel, Corporate Affairs Director at AMC.

As part of their commitment to supporting their employees as they undergo their organizational transformation, AMC has partnered with global outplacement service Lee Hecht Harrison (LHH) to aid affected workers in transitioning to future employment.

“Proper job transition support must also include practical help, which is why we facilitated business and resume building seminars, as well as job fairs for the affected employees of AMC,” LHH said in a statement. “Especially with our current climate, it’s great that companies like AMC are taking a proactive approach to employee care when they plan their restructuring,” LHH added.

AMC previously announced their parent company’s global directive to optimize business operations, causing their decision to undergo an organizational transformation, effectively separating about 200 workers this July 1. So far, LHH has offered the affected employees workshops on job search strategies, personal finance, psychological support, and business planning.

AMC, through LHH, also organized a job fair that allowed the workers to submit their resumés to potential employers, including companies such as Unilever, Monde Nissin, Rebisco, and PhilAm Life.

“AMC understands the difficulty of this transition for our employees, which is why this care package was part of our plans from the very beginning. We will continue to empower the employees so that they can take the proper next steps as they look towards their future,” added Atty. Esquivel.

AMC reiterates that their business remains stable and that these changes were necessary to keep Alaska’s products affordable, and to save more jobs in the long-run. They note that Alaska is proud of their ability to remain steadfast in their commitment to providing affordable nutrition for Filipino families while still supporting each of their valued employees.
