Ambulance vs van: 4 dead in Quezon

FOUR persons including a 12 year- old boy died while three others were injured in a collision between an ambulance and a Nissan Urban van yesterday along Quirino Highway in Bgy. San Vicente, Tagkawayan, Quezon.

Town police commander Major Marcelito Platino identified the fatalities as Melchor Escandor, 45, ambulance driver, Jocelyn Espadero, Silvestre Camposanto, and Aljon Gime, 12.

Platino said wounded were Nigel Gime, 8, Lanie Escandor, 43, and Rose Ann Espineda, 30, all of Gubat, Sorsogon.

Probers said the ambulance was traversing the stretch of the highway on its way to Manila at 9:30 a.m. when smashed by the speeding van driven by Gerardo Bandales.

The van came from the opposite direction.

The first three victims died on the spot while the fourth passed away while undergoing treatment at the hospital.

Bandales was arrested and will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting to multiple homicide and physical injuries.
