TWO foreign nationals, an American and a Chinese, both male and said to be wanted fugitives from justice in their own countries were arrested by Bureau of Immigration (BI) operatives arrested on Wednesday, during separate operations.
BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said the two aliens were nabbed by the BI’s fugitive search unit headed by Rendel Ryan Sy in the cities of Parañaque and Las Piñas, pursuant to mission orders he issued for their arrest. Both fugitives are now detained at the BI warden facility in Taguig City pending deportation proceedings.
It was learned that the mission orders were issued based on the request of the governments of China and the US which both sought the bureau’s help in locating the fugitives so they could be deported and tried for their alleged crimes.
The Chinese fugitive was identified as Deng Hongfu, 32, who was apprehended along C. Santos Street, Bgy. Tambo, Parañaque City and is allegedly wanted for economic crimes.
A warrant for Deng’s arrest was reportedly issued by the public security bureau in Chibi City, China where he was charged for running an illegal business by selling shares of stocks with the proper permit since 2018. He is also in the wanted list of the BI which issued watchlist and blacklist orders against him early this year for being an undesirable alien.
Investigation further showed that Deng is an undocumented alien due to the cancellation of his passport by the Chinese government. He arrived in the Philippines on March 8, 2019 and did not depart since then.
Sy meanwhile said that American national Mark Andrew Baldwin, 50, was arrested at his residence in Angela Village, Bgy. Talon Kuatro, Las Piñas City.
The US embassy said Baldwin was issued an arrest warrant by a superior court in Cherokee county, Georgia after he was charged with gun possession by a convicted felon. He is also undocumented as a result of the revocation of his passport by the State Department.
