Ancillary products set to drive additional revenue for air carriers in 2022

AirAsia Ancillary Products

A recent survey by AirAsia Philippines has shown half of traveling Filipinos purchase ancillary products like additional baggage allowance and in-flight food.

Manila, Philippines, 21 January 2022 – Five out of ten Filipinos avail of ancillary products or add-on purchases while traveling via air transport, as shown in a recent survey commissioned by AirAsia Philippines. Dominating the list of most purchased ancillary products are additional baggage allowance and in-flight meals, making these supplementary offers a major additional revenue stream for air carriers this year as the industry gradually recovers from the pandemic.

AirAsia Philippines releases new data on the traveling behavior of Filipinos while they are still dealing with the global health situation – this time zeroing in on their in-flight purchases. In answering the question, “which add-on offer do you usually purchase?”, 46% of the participants responded that they invest in additional baggage allowance, with about 42% of them bringing baggage weighing 20 to 25kgs, while 12% of them travel with a heavier load of 30 to 40kgs.

AirAsia Ancillary ProductsThe next top-purchased ancillary product is in-flight meals or snacks, availed by 32% of the respondents while traveling. The top items getting off of the cart are sandwiches (50%) and drinks (50%). And it was not a surprise that joining top food items are rice meals, enjoyed by 37% of Filipino flyers. Other ancillary products that travelers purchase are travel insurance (27%) and seat assignments (21%).

AirAsia Philippines Chief Executive Officer Ricky Isla said, “Even though flight bookings continue to be our major revenue channel, we at AirAsia also give priority to other offers such as ancillary – and we are glad that our array of products is warmly received by our guests. What’s great about being a global air travel brand is we get to bring the best practices and products from our international counterparts here in the Philippines. So expect to have more options – proudly Pinoy included – in our in-flight meals and other ancillary offerings this year.”

AirAsia Philippines, in a bid to make flying more inclusive, is constantly offering promos not just on flights but on ancillary products as well. Currently, the world’s best low-cost airline offers the AirAsia Travel Hack Value Pack for all guests for them to easily access services and products they need without hurting the bank.
