GOOD news to fur parents in Manila.

Mayor Honey Lacuna announced that the city of Manila will have its first animal shelter and clinic by next month.

Relatedly, the lady mayor also said that the city government has already found a perfect spot where the planned pet cemetery will be situated.

Lacuna made the said announcements as she led the city in celebrating the annual feast day of St. Roch, the patron saint of dogs, on August 16.

The lady mayor, it was learned, is herself fur parent, owning a total of 13 pet dogs in all.

It was learned that the first animal shelter and clinic will be located in Vitas, Tondo and will provide free services for cats and dog owners who are residents of Manila on a first come, first served basis.

In line with this, Lacuna also shared that the local government will also embark on a program that would provide training for constituents who are interested in learning about proper grooming of pets.

This way, she said, they will not only be able to take good care of pets but may also use their new skill to earn a living or extra income.

The pet cemetery, meanwhile, will be located in the Manila South Cemetery where fur parents may lay their departed pets to rest.

Lacuna added that according to plan, a crematorium will also be put up in the same cemetery where pets can also be accommodated for cremation.

According to Lacuna, she had already asked Vice Mayor Yul Servo, in his concurrent capacity as Presiding Officer of the Manila City Council, to iron out the the details and operational guidelines for the said clinic, cemetery and crematorium as these will have to be embodied in an ordinance prior to implementation.
